After completing my degree, I took a seasonal job at the Honeybee Centre. After being taken on as a mentee by my manager, I learned the ins and outs of beekeeping. After a season of practicing, I was ready to impart my knowledge onto others.

I consider it a great gift to be given skills, and it is owed to others to return the favour. I began by teaching groups of children who visited the Centre, and I had to get very creative in the ways I could simplify more complicated subjects. When mixed groups of adults and children visited for fairs, my teaching style had to be flexible in speaking with an audience of varying ages and experience levels.

This experience was unforgettable! In the picture below, I demonstrated the docility of bees to a group of folks, called a “bee beard.”
